Company History

1980

Maine-Line Industries (MLI) was founded by Eugene and James Custeau. The company manufactured leather pet products and was a sub-contractor to the shoe industry. MLI was the sole provider of handsewn shoe services to The Eatonic Shoe Corporation which produced high quality handsewn dress shoes and golf shoes. MLI was also the primary provider of handsewn services to L.L. Bean producing 1/3 of all of Beans handsewn shoes and moccasin production.

1987

1987 proved to be a good year and MLI began to manufacture leather police and security equipment, a process that continues to the present.

1988

In 1988, MLI ventured into the Harness racing industry and produced “The Power Connection” harness which received a United States Patent.

1992

Maine-Line expanded its police and security line to include nylon goods.

1999

Founder, Eugene Custeau passes away.

2001

Maine-Line moves to its present location with 9000 sq ft of manufacturing space.

2005

Maine-Line Inc. expands it’s police and security line again to include high gloss goods.

2006

Maine-Line purchases manufacturing equipment from Action Products of Hagerstown, MD and begins producing military equipment for the United States Marine Corps.

2007

Maine-Line becomes an authorized dealers of Tandy Leather Factory , Fiebings Stains & Finishes, and C.S. Osbourne Tools.

Opens a retail showroom at the factory location. We also start offering our items on our website www.mainelineleather.com.

Begins to import finished and raw materials.
